What is the Imi n'Ifri natural bridge?
Imi n'Ifri is a natural limestone arch, carved over time by erosion from the Tissilt river. It measures roughly 300 meters long and about 50 meters high. Its name, in Amazigh, literally means "the mouth of the cave." The site has been protected since 1949 and is recognized as a biological and ecological interest area, notably for the birds that nest there.
The natural bridge sits about 6 km from the town of Demnate, which serves as a landmark and logistical stop (fuel, shops) for visitors coming from Marrakech or Azilal.
Distance and route between Imi n'Ifri and Ouzoud
The two sites are distinct and separated by roughly 70 km of road across Azilal province, about a 1.5-hour drive depending on conditions. This isn't a quick detour: it's a real trip to factor into your itinerary logic, not a stop along the way.
| Route | Approximate distance |
|---|---|
| Imi n'Ifri ↔ Ouzoud | About 70 km, ~1.5-hour drive |
| Imi n'Ifri ↔ Demnate | About 6 km |
These distances are approximate and should be checked before departure depending on road conditions and season. For the route to Ouzoud itself from Marrakech, see our Marrakech to Ouzoud by car guide.
Expert take: don't underestimate the 70 km between the two sites. Many travelers picture a quick detour when it's actually half a day's worth of extra driving. If time is tight, it's better to pick one of the two sites rather than rush both.
Should you combine both sites in one trip?
Combining Imi n'Ifri and Ouzoud in a single day is possible by car, as long as you leave early from Marrakech and accept a packed schedule. For a more relaxed pace, staying overnight in the Azilal or Demnate area lets you spread the visit over two days without rushing the time spent at each site.
